Facebook users now can take a short duration video and put on filters and frames to the video and post it on a story mode for your friends to see. The stories will disappear within 24 hours. This feature is major upgrade for Facebook and its aim to be relevant and to capture the younger generation that have been mostly in Snapchat. Connor Hayes, Facebook product manager stated in its blog that “We want to make it fast, fun and easy for people to share creative photos and videos with whomever they choose, for however long they choose — and the more we share with each other, the more open and connected our community can be,” Even though the features are mostly the same as the one in Snapchat stories and Instagram stories, here are 7 things you need to know before you start to use the Facebook stories function. 1. FAVOURITE FILTERS You can swipe up and down to choose your favourite filters. It capture the last eight that you used before. How to use it? You can just swipe up or down to change the filters. 2. VIDEO DURATION The Facebook stories can capture up to 20 seconds of video. For your information, Snapchat can capture 10 seconds and Instagram is 15 seconds. 3. SAVING YOUR STORIES You can save your stories to your camera roll. After you have done editing your videos or pictures, tap the arrow pointing down at the bottom right screen. 4. VIEWING HISTORY This is a similar feature as in Instagram stories where you can know who sees your stories. The bottom of your stories will show friends that have viewed it. 5. PUBLIC BY DEFAULT The settings for Facebook stories is that it is set to public on default. Therefore anyone can see your stories once you posted it. 6. SCREEN SHOT NOTIFICATIONS People can screen shot your stories and you will not know about it. Unlike Snapchat where it notifies you if someone take a screenshot of your stories, in Facebook stories, you will not be able to know as of current, Facebook have not put the notification in yet in that feature. So, be aware of posting something in Facebook stories that you might regret later on. 7. STORIES FEED The stories in your top feed is not based on chronological order but is based on some Facebook algorithm. Therefore you might be late to post a certain stories but may well remain in the first order of the feed or the last. This is the same as Instagram stories.
