How to Direct Message or DM on Instagram Using Computer (PC)

Instagram has finally introduced the Direct Message or DM feature in the Instagram desktop mode. Previously, the DM feature can be used in your Instagram mobile only. Now, Instagram also allows users to interact with their followers via DM on both mobile and desktop version of the Instagram app. Here we are going to show you the step-by-step how you can use Instagram DM on your PC or laptop.

WHY DO DIRECT MESSAGE USING PC?

Here are some of the top reasons why you should use a PC to send DM on Instagram.

1. EASIER TO TYPE – If you are more comfortable using a PC keyboard compared to the small mobile keyboard to type messages, you would enjoy this new feature by Instagram
2. EASIER TO MANAGE – If you like to send group message using DM in Instagram, using a computer would also be beneficial as you would be able to see much larger screen compared to the small screen in your mobile phone. 

So, if you are interested to learn how to use this DM feature, here are the steps.

#1 HOW TO SEND DM TO YOUR FRIENDS USING PC

Step 1

Go to https://www.instagram.com

Step 2

Fill-in your Instagram username and your password to login into your Instagram account

Step 3

At your Instagram account, tap the “Direct Message” icon at the top right above

This will bring you to the Direct Message feature

If you have sent a direct message or received direct message before on your Instagram app in your mobile, the message history will be shown there

Step 4

Tap at any of the lists of chats with your friends there to send the direct message

Step 5

A chat message screen will open up

Type the message there to start direct messaging with your friend

#2 HOW TO SEND PICTURES USING DM ON PC

Step 1

You can also send your pictures to your friend using the DM

Tap at the “picture” icon at the chatbox there

Step 2

Browse your PC for the picture and tap “Open” to attach and send the picture to your friend via the Instagram DM

#3 CREATE NEW MESSAGE ON DM

Step 1

At the Direct Message screen, tap at the “Create New Message” icon above there

Step 2

In the “New Message” screen, select the person you want to send the Direct Message to

You can select more recipients for your DM. The maximum number you can add for your Instagram DM group message is 32 pax.

#4 SEND DIRECT MESSAGE FROM USER’S PROFILE

Step 1

At the user’s Instagram profile, tap at “Message” button beside their Instagram username

Step 2

Type your message at the DM chat box there
