How to do Video Chat on Instagram

If you are an avid user of Instagram, you would probably keep close contact with your friends and families by following their Instagram account. However, are you aware besides the ability to message your friends and families using Instagram Direct Message, you can also have a video chat using Instagram.

Instagram introduces this function way back in June 2018 as a way for you and your friends to have more option of connecting using the Instagram app.

Not just that, you can have a group video chat up to six people using the Direct Messaging function.

Here are the steps on how you use the function

Open the Instagram app

In the Instagram home menu, tap the “Aeroplane” icon on the top right

Tap on the friend that you want to video chat with

You can also search for your friend’s Instagram handle at the search column

In your friends “Direct Message” menu, tap the “Video” icon at the top right

Wait until your friend answers your call to start the video chat.

When your friend answers the call, his or her face will show up on your screen. Your face will also appear on their screen as well. So, better dress up correctly.

Here are some things You Should Know About Instagram Video Chat

1. You can add up to six people on Instagram Group Video Chat
2. No phone number is needed to use Video Chat. An only Instagram account is sufficient. Make sure both of you and your friend are logged into Instagram when you want to do Video Chat.
3. You can video chat with any of your followers and people whom DM you. However, if you blocked someone on Instagram, you cannot Video Chat with them.
4. You can still browse your Instagram feed while doing Video Chat. This multitasking is neat as it allows you and your friend to comment and chat on something you both are seeing on Instagram.

Can you block someone from requesting video chat on Instagram?

Yes, you can block someone from sending a video chat by blocking that person on your Instagram account.  You can also mute them.

How to add someone on the Video Chat group?

It is quite a straightforward process. Start with one video chat first. During that video chat, at your video screen, swipe up and add your friend’s name to the video chat. Your friend will be notified that you are calling them on video chat. Do the same thing, and you can add up to six people.
