How to Use the Restrict Function on Instagram (And Prevent Cyber Bullying)

In October 2019, Instagram has introduced a new function aimed at preventing Instagram users from being bullied by negative comments from haters repeatedly. By using the restrict function, you will no longer see the cyberbully comments on your post. Anybody else also will not see the comments made by the cyberbully in your post. 

This is considered as an effective tool of preventing your Instagram feed being flooded by these negative people and other people will also not see these sometimes destructive comments. The interesting about this restrict function is that the cyberbully would not even know that you have restricted them. The cyberbully can see their comment in your post, but you and others cannot. This is considered a quieter and more non-confrontational way of dealing with cyberbullying.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BLOCKING AND RESTRICTING?

So, what is the difference between restricting an Instagram user and blocking an Instagram user? The big difference between them is as follows:-

BLOCKING

– Once you block a person, he or she may no longer be in your Instagram followers list.

– They cannot see your Instagram post and also

– They cannot comment on your post at all.

RESTRICTING

– However, by restricting only, he or she is still in your follower’s list.

– They will not able to see if you are online or not

– They can still see your post

– You can see their post and comment

– They can comment on your post, but you will not see their comment. You can only see their comment by tapping “View Comments”

– Your followers will also not see their comment in your post without your approval.

HOW TO RESTRICT SOMEONE ON INSTAGRAM FROM PROFILE SETTINGS

Step 1

In your Instagram, go to your list of followers

Tap at the follower who you want to restrict

Step 2

At the person’s profile, tap the three-dot above

Step 3

A menu will be shown, tap “Restrict”

Once you restrict the person, you will no longer see his or her comment on your post

HOW TO RESTRICT SOMEONE ON INSTAGRAM USING SETTINGS

Step 1

In your Instagram profile, tap the three-line icon above

Step 2

A menu will be shown. Tap at “Settings”

Step 3

At “Settings”, tap “Privacy”

Step 4

At the “Privacy” menu, tap “Restricted accounts”

Step 5

You will see the description of the Restricted Accounts here. Tap “Continue”

Step 6

Use the Search column and type the name of the Instagram follower that you want to restrict

Step 7

Once you find the person you want to restrict, tap “Restrict”

If you want to unrestrict the person, you can just tap “Unrestrict” anytime you want

HOW TO RESTRICT SOMEONE ON INSTAGRAM FROM COMMENT SETTINGS

Step 1

In the Privacy Settings, tap “Comment”

Step 2

In Comment controls, tap “Block Comments From”

Step 3

In the Blocked commenters menu, use the search column

Once you find the person in the list, tap “Block”

That person will no longer able to comment on your post
